Description:
Vedat Akçayöz, the President of Kars Culture and Art Association, has worked extensively to preserve and promote the multiethnic and multi-religious heritage of the city and the region. His books and photo albums, documentary films, and exhibitions range in thematic scope from the Armenian to the Molokan historical presence and enduring legacies in Kars. Akçayöz’s works on the ruins of Ani include the books New Discoveries in Ani (2017) and The Mysterious Face of Ani (2017). He played an instrumental role in the process of designating Ani as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and served in the Ani Archaeological Site Advisory Board of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey. Here, we present a selection from his work on Ani frescoes from the Cathedral and the Church of the Holy Savior. In this project, Akçayöz was able to reveal many previously unknown scenes and details, invisible to the naked eye.
